On Thursday, November 19, at its 230th Anniversary Celebration and Annual Craftsmanship and Civic Leadership Awards Gala, The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen celebrated the contributions of two very special New Yorkers to our City.
Our 2015 Craftsmanship Award recipient was Jonathan D. Resnick, President, Jack Resnick & Sons, Inc; and our Civic Leadership Award recipient was Charles H. Thornton, Ph.D, P.E., Founder, ACE Mentor Program. Both the Resnick and Thornton families have very personal connections to the Mechanics Institute and the General Society. Jack Resnick, Founder, Jack Resnick & Sons, who is Jonathan’s grandfather, was a 1930 graduate of Mechanics Institute. Charlie Thornton’s father, was a graduate of the Mechanics Institute, Class of 1927 and a Past President in 1968 of The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen.
It was a wonderful evening in celebration of our honorees and the 230th Anniversary of The General Society of Mechanics & Tradesmen.
Commencing the evening’s program, NYS Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul delivered eloquent and heartfelt remarks which resonated deeply with all in attendance. We were very grateful for the admiration expressed for our honorees and for the work of The General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen.
