Medieval Armor and Metalwork

Jeff Wassonis an artist who specializes in making historical reproductions of medieval armor. He is considered to be one of the finest American armor-makers working today, with a world-wide reputation for historical accuracy and attention to fine detail.
Mr. Wasson is also a teacher and educator who brings his love of history and craft into his presentations. He has worked on various projects for movies and television, but his main focus is making medieval armor, specializing in 14th, 15th and 16th century European plate armor. Having also fought and jousted in the armor he makes, Mr. Wasson has a unique perspective on its functionality. Also, as someone who trained as an artist and sculptor, he is adept at particularly capturing the proper shapes that make authentic armor, an art form.
During Mr. Wasson’s talk, he will provide an overview of his craft, describing both the modern and historic metalwork techniques he uses to create the armor, and will discuss his many metalwork projects.
Jeff Wasson is a full-time armorer who also teaches undergraduate classes in metalworking for the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York. He founded Wasson Artistry in 2007 to promote his many artistic endeavors, which includes: reproductions of medieval armor for re-enactors, jousters, museums and collectors; props for television and films such as Marvel’s Luke Cageand Men in Black 3; art and sculpture based on the techniques of smithing and armor making; illustration; teaching, lecturing and demonstrations on the methods of armor making, knights, armor and jousting.
