Business Manager, International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 14-14B
Edwin L. Christian has been an active member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 14-14B for 31 years. He has served as Business Manager of Local 14-14B for the past 12 years and held the office of President from December 2004 through August 2013. Mr. Christian is also currently a Trustee to the Local’s Funds; and previously held the positions of Business Agent, Treasurer, Executive Board member, Examining Board member and Union Trustee.
Local 14-14B International Union of Operating Engineers represents Operating Engineers in all aspects of the Construction Industry. Local 14-14B has agreements with the major associations in Heavy Construction and Infrastructure work, Steel Erection, Concrete and Building work from foundation to completion; so you are virtually assured of seeing their dedicated and highly skilled members operating cranes and major construction equipment on projects throughout the five Boroughs of New York City. Local 14-14B continues to provide a valuable service to the Industry and to the City of New York through their commitment to safe and proficient practices.
Mr. Christian’s other affiliations are: Trustee, I.U.O.E. National Training Fund; President, NYC Coalition of Operating Engineers; Executive Board, NYC Building and Construction Trades Council; Executive Board, Central Labor Council; Delegate, AFL-CIO; Member of New York Building Congress serving on the Committee for Economic Development and the Committee for Transportation and Infrastructure; member of The Association for a Better New York; member of Municipal Labor Committee; Board of Directors for Outreach Project; recently elected as a Trustee to the New York State Conference of Operating Engineers and appointed by Mayor de Blasio to the New York City Workforce Development Board.
Mr. Christian has a strong personal commitment to supporting charitable organizations. As a Board member, he is actively involved in K.I.D.S. (Kindness Is Doing Something), a nonprofit founded by members of Local 14-14B. K.I.D.S. grants wishes to children with health issues and seeks to provide relief and happiness to families in crisis. They also host yearly Christmas parties, Easter parties and carnivals at orphanages, homeless shelters, hospitals and residences for developmentally disabled children. Mr. Christian also serves on the Board of Outreach, a non-profit agency who is a premier provider and champion of quality, life-changing drug and alcohol abuse treatment and training services; the kind that helps individuals and their families cope with their problems, heal themselves and move forward in a more positive direction.
Eddie is the proud father of two children, his son Edward and his daughter Danielle.
